“Renaissance” is the title track off Glen’s 7th album (June ’24)…
As the songwriter, I aimed to explore the complex interplay between good and evil. The lyrics open with a powerful assertion that every hero needs a villain, and every victory is defined by struggle. Lines like “I’ve been down but never out” reflect resilience and the journey of self-discovery, affirming that I accept my identity, flaws and all.
In the second verse, I emphasize that without the presence of darkness, we can’t truly appreciate the light. My acknowledgment of life’s contrasting experiences is encapsulated in the line “There ain’t no good, without the bad.” This reinforces the idea that our struggles shape us into who we are.
The chorus expresses a deep connection to a spiritual journey, as I refer to the “troubled road” I’ve traveled, suggesting that I’ve faced challenges and tribulations. The metaphor of “floating down this river called Renaissance” conveys a sense of rebirth and healing, indicating my desire to embrace change and find solace.
In the bridge, I confront my past mistakes and the pain I’ve endured, feeling the weight of the “deep cuts” I’ve experienced. However, there’s a yearning for healing and redemption as I plead for the river to carry me home. As the chorus repeats, there’s a sense of acceptance and hope, recognizing that the journey, with all its hardships, is a pivotal part of who I am.
Overall, this song is about embracing life’s complexities and seeking renewal, embodying the idea that out of struggle comes strength, and often, a chance for a new beginning.
