Born in Flint, Michigan, Gabe Schillman is an internationally recognized songwriter, recording artist, and performer whose life reads like one of his own songs — a story of struggle, survival, and relentless artistic drive. Signing his first recording contract at just 17 years old, Gabe has spent 20 years as a touring artist and 14 years as a professional staff songwriter, cutting his teeth for 13 years in Nashville, Tennessee as a contract writer for Lunacy Records and Little Chuckie Records, where he penned multiple #1 independent releases.
Unlike most musicians who claim to “live on the road,” Gabe means it literally — he owns no home, choosing a fully nomadic lifestyle that sees him play over 250 shows across the country every single year. He describes himself not just as a songwriter, but as a documentarian: “I write the truth — what and who I experience is what I write… When touring, my goal is to experience the towns and people and write their stories into my songs.”

His sound blends rootsy folk, gritty Americana, and honest, storytelling songwriting — drawing inspiration from early influences like Christian songwriter John Cox, and more recently admiring artists such as Zach Bryan for “bringing three chords and the truth back to songwriting.” He has collaborated and recorded with industry heavyweights including Grammy Award-winning producer Ted Perlman (credits with Bob Dylan, Diana Ross) and producer Barry Blair of Audio Adrenaline, and has shared stages with icons ranging from REO Speedwagon to Wynonna Judd.
In January 2020, he released the Born of Flame EP — a deeply personal collection headlined by the title track, an autobiographical telling of his journey from homelessness on the streets of Flint to becoming an internationally recognized artist. In 2024, he followed with a string of powerful singles: Run No More, I Dodged a Bullet, Heaven Help Us, and Knocking on Heaven’s Door. Beyond recording, Gabe founded SongCraft Collective — an online community and mentorship hub for aspiring songwriters, helping the next generation navigate the music industry.
Whether performing solo in an intimate room or commanding a stage on his “United States of Mind” national tour, Gabe brings unvarnished truth, hard-won wisdom, and a voice that rings with the authenticity of the road itself. As he says: “Nothing about this profession has been easy… but then I see the impact a song can make, and I keep pressing on.”
