A native Texan, Chris Chitsey is one of country music’s most enduring independent success stories — the only country artist in history to earn #1 singles across four different decades, with 11 worldwide chart-toppers and counting. Raised in Austin, Texas, Chris began performing as a high schooler on the stage of his family’s Bar-B-Q restaurant and entertainment venue, honing his craft on the legendary Texas honky-tonk circuit. His sound — smooth, expressive, and deeply rooted in traditional country — draws influence from the icons who shaped the genre: George Strait, Merle Haggard, Alan Jackson, Keith Whitley, and Randy Travis.
While still in college at Southwest Texas State University, Chris signed his first record deal, releasing his self-titled debut album which spawned three national #1 singles and spent 18 weeks on the CMT and GAC Top 10 Countdowns — all while completing both his undergraduate and master’s degrees. After years touring relentlessly across the US, he scored his first independent #1 in February 2015 with Lonely In Tucson, followed by Superstitious Heart and Just Don’t Know It Yet.
Since signing with Clinetel Nashville Records in 2023, Chris has delivered his most prolific and successful era yet: Last Time I Saw You (2023), Life Is Hard, Whiskey Is Easy and Every Small Town (2024 — the latter serving as the theme song for the reality series Only in Iola, in which Chris appears), Chasing Taillights (2025), and his career-defining 11th #1 Where Ya Been Girl (2026).

In April 2026, Chris teamed up with UK rising star Bee Smith for the transatlantic duet Summer Before The Fall — released via Clinetel Nashville Records with SONY/The Orchard distribution. The song earned a 2026 Josie Music Awards nomination for Vocal Event of the Year, hit #1 on the World Indie Music Chart, and was filmed on location in Cancun, Mexico.
